Erin Celebrating Clark’s Birthday – Mon. Feb. 1, 2016

Tonight we went to Hoppy’s Brewery on Folsom Blvd. to celebrate Clark’s birthday. Erin ordered the fried ravioli for all of us to share and she also had a delicious mushroom and onion melt sandwich.

When we were at Hoppy’s a couple of weeks ago, I was disappointed to learn that they no longer had the vegetarian gnocchi on their menu. But, tonight one of the week’s specials was the gnocchi! I was so excited, because I think their gnocchi was better than anything I had ever had in Italy. However, tonight the chef had added Jerusalem artichokes to it. They looked like sliced new potatoes, but were crunchy like jicama. Also, it was luke warm, so I brought half of it home to have hot tomorrow.

Clark liked the bacon and lentil soup (though he had ordered the mushroom soup!), and he also liked another special, the barbecued beef sandwich.

Afterwards, we drove next door to What’s the Scoop and picked up a quart of hand-packed Gunther’s ice cream. The new special was strawberry nutella, so I got that and jamoca almond fudge. Note the candle in Clark’s ice cream in the photo above.

Last night Clark and I celebrated a day early with his son Dan and wife Anne. They took us to Lou’s Sushi in midtown. I discovered a new item I will search for whenever I am at a Japanese restaurant: hamachi kama. It is the collar of yellow tail fish … absolutely delicious!!

Apparently the Canty Sisters like their food hot… “warm” just won’t cut it!

Me? I would be happy to help with the fried ravioli leftovers… directly from the fridge is fine, no need to microwave them.

    Happy Birthday Clark!

    Happy Birthday, Clark
It seems that you are getting well fed. The Japanese know their fish.
    Clark, enjoy your day.
