Erin Took Off – Tues. Feb. 17, 2015

Erin got tired of waiting for me to go to lunch with her and Clark, so she took off around the block! We caught up with her a few hundred feet away.

We loved looking at the snow, but not driving in it!

Home at 1 am – Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015

When we checked into the Denver airport, we found out that our flight was going to be 45 min late. It ended up taking off an hour and a half late. They kept waiting for groups of 4 or 5 passengers who were making connecting flights.

Clark used a wheelchair and he and Erin both had “pushers” who knew where to go and cut into the security check line.

The flight home was very smooth and the sky looked clear. When we arrived in Sacramento, the pusher for Erin got us quickly to the baggage area and to a waiting cab. He said that the cab drivers keep track of the flights and would be waiting. Our cab driver had waited 2 hours since his previous customer. He lives in Yuba City because it is cheaper than Sacramento. So after driving us home, he had another hour drive to Yuba City.

Erin arrived home tired, but happy, having had a good time.

Visit to Boulder- Mon. Feb. 16, 2015

Wheeler picked us up this morning and drove us through light snow and icy streets to Colleen and Deke’s house in Boulder. I was nervous about the ice.

Note the chairs on their deck have accumulated about 15 inches of snow in the past 48 hours.

Deke Colleen and Erin sitting at D and C’s custom made cherry wood table. Colleen fixed 2 delicious homemade soups: crab and lobster bisque and Italian wedding soup with bison meatballs.

Clark and Colleen on the deck with a VIEW which was not visible when we first arrived because of the falling snow.

Deke out shoveling snow.

Colleen showed us NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research) just above their house with a building designed by I. M. Pei. Then she drove us to the airport.

If I thought the drive to Boulder was scary, it was nothing compared to the blizzard conditions we encountered getting to the airport. What would normally take 45 min took about an hour and a half.

We are now having dinner at the airport while waiting for our flight which is 45 min late.

I am worried about Colleen driving back to Boulder by herself.  Later: Colleen texted that she arrived home safely. The snow had let up, but the road was treacherous.

Flash Mob – Sun. Feb.15, 2015

For entertainment after dinner, Betsy, Tom’s younger sister, organized a Flash Mob. Betsy was speaking, then broke into dance. She was soon joined by her 14 year old daughter, Lilly, in a dance duet they had choreographed. Then Betsy’s husband Josh and son Jonathan joined in the dance.

Soon other Zavadils joined them, then other cousins including Erin dancing with cousin Alan!

Reception house with Tent Attached – Sun. Feb.15, 2015

The Reception for Tom and Dean was at the home of Greg and Mary, Patricia’s oldest daughter. It is in the Park Hill area of Denver. The tent held about 35 people, and another 50 or so ate in the house. The reception was catered by La Comida, but Mary made LOTS of delicious cookies for the dessert.

Tom Erin Dean – Sun. Feb. 15, 2015

Tom and Dean came over to the Renaissance Hotel where we are staying to have breakfast with Erin this morning.

They are pictured in the atrium level restaurant. It gave the 5 of us a nice chance to chat before the big reception tonight.

Also having breakfast on the other side of the room were my niece Janet and her 3 brothers Dave, Ken, and Alan. They were with their cousin Mike, Ralph’s nephew who lives here in Denver.

Skies have turned gray and it is about to snow.
