Our Fourth- Mon. Aug. 11, 2014

Paco mentioned that it would be nice if we had a 4th for whist, so then we could have partners.
So, we enlisted Erin as our 4th. She and Paco were partners and Tommy and I. After 2 hands,
Tommy said he wanted to be his mother’s partner. At one point he wanted to tell her a secret.
He whispered in her ear that he had the “spade of clover” which Paco translated as the “ace
of clubs”.

By the end of that hand, Erin’s left 2 fingers cramped up and she was in pain, so she quit, and the
boys played her hand. Tommy said that Whist was harder than Uno.

Say! Everybody looks fantastic – the expression on Erin’s face in this picture cracks me up. And it sounds like Tommy’s affinity for card-identification-and-play is similar to mine.

Aunt Barbara, Mama Z tells me that “Whist” is the game you all played with your Grandpa when you were between Paco’s and Tommy’s ages. Gotta get ’em started early, I suppose.

    Have a great visit!

That’s right. Joan, Patricia, and I were 7, 8, and 9 when Grandpa Ferguson “Gum-Cum” died, and we had played whist for several years with him. Joan must have been 5 when she started, and I don’t remember her having any trouble holding 13 cards.
