Visit with Barbara B – Oct. 28, 2013

Erin and I went for a walk after dinner tonight and visited Barbara B who was the Kaiser volunteer who came in every Thursday night to stay with Erin while Clark and I played bridge during the 8 months Erin was on hospice (Jan.-Sept. 2012). Barbara also lives on Hartnell just a couple of blocks away.

I had anticipated just standing at the doorstep while Barbara came to the door, but there were just 2 shallow steps about 4 feet apart making it easy to access her living room in the wheelchair. Barbara’s very spry 88 year old mother was visiting from San Bruno, and the daughter of Barbara’s cousin was also visiting. We met Barbara’s husband, Paul, also for the first time.

We really had interrupted their dinner, but they all joined Erin in the living room for a glass of red wine followed by See’s candy. Barbara is going to call tomorrow and take Erin for a walk. Barbara accompanied us home to show us the circuitous route on the curving pathways between our houses. The last time Erin had seen Barbara was when Barbara was on an extended bicycle ride and stopped to see Erin in Davis about 6 months ago.

It’s always good to hear about good things Barbaras do. Nice that you were able to meet with Barbara and her family. I remember how many good things you had to say about the people from Kaiser Hospice.
