Colleen, Erin’s sister who is 6 years older than Erin, had a birthday the day before
yesterday, but she was in New Orleans and Boulder last week, so we celebrated
today with lunch at Roxy, followed by fruit tart from Ettore’s Bakery back at the
house. At lunch I asked Colleen how her travels went, and she said they were not
without excitement.

Colleen, boyfriend Deke, and 7 others from Lynda.com, where

she works, went to New Orleans for a jazz festival. They flew back a week ago
Thursday, arriving about midnight. At 3 am when they were going to bed,
those that were sleeping on the floor, needed blankets. So, in the upstairs
bathroom there was a door marked “laundry”. She thought there might be
spare blankets there, so she opened the door, and straight ahead were
empty shelves, but the top shelf had 2 boxes which she thought might
have blankets. She reached for the boxes, not realizing that she was
at the top of a stairwell and fell down a flight of stairs that had no railings.

Colleen ended up spending that night and the next in the hospital. She

had 3 CAT scans and a stitch on the top of her head where it was bleeding.
The diagnosis was Subarachnoid Hematoma. Other than some very bad
bruises, she seems to be all right. She got to the concert Sat. night!
